Leadership development towards filing a motion

While we were travelling to Bangkok we recieved adapted documentation on the proposal of affiliations fees. Indicating a formula of calculation equal to 3% of each member association's unrestricted income with a minimum of CHF500.

For our Dutch YWCA this proposal would be more effective compared to the previous affiliation fees. With our current membership quantity we could no longer apply to the formula on affiliation fees, most possible resulting in bankruptcy of our YWCA.
To my opinion unbelievable and not acceptable since we also contribute in an amount of funding the World YWCA.

At the business meeting of Tuesday the World Board presented the treasurer's report, affiliation and notified their withdrawal from the affiliation fees proposal. From that moment on a interesting process took place.
Our delegation didn't agree on this. And we worked out a motion against this notification. For all of us this is the first world council and the way of working according procedures in the constitution is also completely new.

So as I wrote before we worked out a motion. The objective is to get the new proposal on affiliation fees into voting including an amendment for association's who see their affiliation fees tripled should be getting a transition period.

To get a motion into a voting there should be associations supporting you. Hear, hear the lobby started. This was so exciting. First we tried to get support from the Belgium delegates and received a positive reflection and feedback on our motion. We changed the motion into a more accurate phrases. And the search for member support on this motion advanced. We made a schedule of countries to approach. Talked to delegates, showed our motion and explained why we want to get the affiliation fee proposal into voting. Explained financial structures: p.e. explaining the content of unrestricted income, opportunities, weaknesses and importance of correct indicators in finance, to be honest not my strength and out of boundaries of knowledge.
We all had to overcome our own obstacles in communicating one on explaining financial issues, the other on approaching delegaties in a language which is not native, pressure of time to get support. Fortunately Jeannette supported us side by side and made unclarity's on unanswered feedback understandable.
A counter effect of getting support of other countries was raising awareness on the importance of affiliation fees proposal.

We approached so many international countries of all regions from East to West and the North to South.
We learned and incorporated the procedure of filing a motion, getting support and how it works afterwards. Intergenerational communication, learning the lobby, developing leadership skills and so on. Made a lot of new contacts also dared to disagree.
In the beginning it was scary especially the lobby. Now we performed this process I am extremely proud on my sisters and feel empowered we all gained extended improvement in our bold&transformative leadership.

    Geeske:

    You did an amazing job!
The whole delegation attended the World Council for the first time and you managed so well. Looking forward what we can take back home from this experience and implement in the Netherlands. Thanks for representing us this time!

    love, Geeske
