This last day of the Council has already been revolutionary at the beginning of the day. Yesterday there has been a voting for the World Board. The results were the revolutionary aspect of this, because 60% of the elected persons are 30 years or under. We therefore are now a young women’s organisation with a young women’s board!

The strategic framework was put to a vote, but before this we had Phumzille Miambo-Ngcuka as a speaker talking to us. She is the Under-Secretary-General of the UN and the Executive Director of UN Women. She has been a member of the YWCA and the coordinator of the first Young Women’s forum. The strategic framework was the topic of her talk and she called us revolutionary for our new strategic framework goal: "By 2035, 100 million young women and girls transform power structures to create justice, gender equality and a world without violence and war; leading a sustainable YWCA movement, inclusive of all women". She had never thought that there would be a day where 60% of the board would be young women. There was a time, according to her, that this was not so obvious within the YWCA. Look at the change!

We voted on Envisioning 2035, the strategic budget document and after that we voted on the resolutions. We are very proud of our delegation member, Messalina, who posed the question on the resolution on nuclear power if we could exclude medical purposes. We now have a statement within the Wolrd YWCA against nuclear power and weapons, but the use of nuclear power in hospitals is excluded. The other resolutions were about advocacy and non-discrimination.

The non-discrimination resolution gave some emotions about sexual orientation and gender identity. This was specifically said by some people. When the resolution was passed a former board member who was presenting stated that she was happy the resolution was passed, especially because she is a lesbian. We just want to support her for the courage she showed.

After this we had a regional meeting and I think I can speak for all of us that we really would like to stay connected and work together. I hope that we will see all the countries again at the European Regional Meeting in Ireland next year!

The Council concluded with a big formal dinner where all the countries could show their national dances/songs. This was great and resulted to us dancing Korean (gangnamstyle ;)), Thai and Arabic dances.

For everyone who was there: Thank you so much for sharing, working and having fun together. We have discussed some very important subjects.

See you in 2019 in South Africa!
